Roots in Compassion: The Journey of Kapatidkita Mahalkita Foundation

In the heart of Payatas B, a vision took root – the Kapatidkita Mahalkita Foundation – Payatas B, Inc. (formerly known as Kapatidkita Mahalkita Foundation, Inc. or KM Foundation). Founded and overseen by Fr. Walter L. Ysaac, S.J., its name embodies a profound message: “You are my brother/sister, I love you.” At its core lies the principle of sharing, fueled by authentic love, leading to tangible actions and enduring personal relationships.

The Lonergan Center, situated in Loyola House of Studies, Ateneo de Manila University, embraced philosopher-theologian Bernard Lonergan’s principles of community-building, particularly in impoverished areas. In 1976, Fr. Walter L. Ysaac, S.J., initiated work in two priestless barrios in San Mateo, Rizal. By March 1983, the foundation identified and supported 43 children from the most impoverished families in their educational journey from kindergarten to college.

Recognizing the need for broader community engagement, Fr. Walter L. Ysaac, S.J. reaching out to help the poor in neighboring communities. In 2002, Puso Philippines became a vital U.S. partner.

In 2011, Reed Elsevier Philippines started supporting 26 children, growing to 220 sponsored students by the academic year 2023-2024. Philippines Humanitarian, founded by Ms. Imelda H. Armstrong in June 12, 2012, has been instrumental in supporting 276 students from grade 2 to college.
